There are days when sitting at a desk inside is just not a good idea. Today is one such day, a beautifully sunny warm morning. I decamped to the yard with my MacBook Pro, iPhone, fresh cup of tea and other necessities to enable me to catch up with a little work.

I’m not sure that the iPhone has done justice to this shot, but it looked beautiful at the time. I was on a pre-work morning walk. I’m hoping to make the morning exercise a more regular event, but not being a “morning” person it will be a struggle I think!

I’m spending 4 weeks in the UK visiting friends and relatives. I’ve been here for 3 days now and slowly adjusting to the 7 hour time zone difference from Perth, Australia. I have eaten far too much and walked a few km’s to help compensate!
Yesterday I walked around my childhood suburb resurrecting so many schooldays memories as I retraced the route home from my old school. The area is one of large Victorian houses and it’s fascinating to see how many have been beautifully restored. The village shops have not changed very much in the 30 years since I shopped there as a child but there are now cafes with outdoor seating, something not seen 3 decades ago.
We sat and watched life walk and drive by at one of these cafes whilst enjoying a latte in the autumn sunshine.
Today was a mad dash around the shops in preparation for my trip to Europe on Friday. Last minute clothes buying and looking for presents for people I’m visiting. Not much luck on the latter!
First job this morning was into Perth CBD, all car parks were full so an extra 15 minutes spent searching for a parking place, aah the joy of visiting the city centre! A successful visit to city offices, came away happy with dealing with bank. Some very pleasant staff there.
Afternoon shopping at suburban mall. Took time for a coffee and a sinful chocolate muffin, my first in weeks!
Finally a warmish day, 23C, felt so much more pleasant than recent chilly weather. Hopefully summer isn’t too far away and things will warm up by the time I return to Australia from Europe in 5 weeks time.
The excitement builds as Apple’s latest media event approaches. Rumours have it that the iPod range will be revamped with a new iPod Nano as a certainty.
So what chance of a new or upgraded MacBook Pro? Very little. But maybe there could be some interesting news on the Apple TV front.
Only a few hours to go and then we shall know what Apple has to offer the growing number of Apple fans eagerly awaiting new products.
Saturday morning. Drove into Subiaco and parked in Rockeby Road. Took a walk down to Subi Centro and then into the markets.
Bought a couple of freshly baked croissant from the fab French bakery.
Bumped into a couple of friends heading towards the same bakery.
Had coffee sitting in the spring sunshine, browsed the iphone and read the newspaper.
Wandered back up Rockeby Road and bought two pairs of sandals.
All in all a very pleasant morning.
This week’s episode of the Mac ReviewCast contained an excellent review of the Blue Snowflake by Darren Rolf of Macwingnut.com.
I was contemplating buying another headset/mic for my trip to UK in September, however while listening to Darren’s review I began considering the Snowflake instead.
Thinking that I could buy one while in the UK I found only one UK online reseller Dolphin Music who, according to their website, are waiting for stock to arrive. I have emailed DolphinMusic asking if they will be able to supply a Blue Snowflake by the end of September.
I do hope they can supply a Snowflake in time.
Today is Sunday, and it was time to walk the 2 bridges again. After yesterdays exertion around Lake Monger my leg muscles screamed at me when I tried to jog today. I think they need a few days to recover. Regardless of the recalcitrant leg muscles I walked as fast as I could around the circuit, only slowing down to change podcasts on my iPhone.
The 2 bridges loop was incredibly devoid of cyclists and runners today and this must have been due to the annual City-To-Surf Race being held today where all the fitness-freaks would have been aiming to beat their previous year’s time on that 12km run/cycle-ride.
Today I sat in the dentist’s waiting room in anticipation of a couple of fillings, but instead of my usual ever-increasing trepidation I remained relaxed.
My trusty iPhone was with me and I kept my thoughts occupied with emails, Twitter and various websites, thereby banishing all images of dental torture that I would normally imagine I was about to endure.
It displayed a full strength Optus 3G signal and was happily pulling in webpages at a satisfactory speed. I chatted with Robert Lachman in California on Twitter about a baseball match game (edit: Robert informs me it was a game and not a match that was being played. Apparently they are two different things, but I don’t know how the two differ.) taking place in Los Angeles and his Hollywood Photo-Walk video that he’s posting on his PhotographyAndTheMac website.
Eventually I was called in and invited to sit in The Chair. The dentist had noticed my iPhone and asked to have a look at it. The dental assistant asked how you could make calls on it if there weren’t any buttons, so a quick explanatory guided tour of the iPhone took place. And then it was time to sit back in the chair.
25 minutes later I was out of there, very little discomfort and just a few hundred dollars lighter in my purse.
Just another use for the iPhone: tranquilizer!
Just mulling over the idea of volunteering to do an audio review for another podcast, besides my usual NosillaCast and Typical Mac User Podcast segments.
As much as I would love to be more involved in podcasts, there is a limit to the number of hours I have spare. I’ve written the email answering the request for audio but I’m not going to send it just yet.
I need to consider this a little further.
